Board of Directors
President
Cathy Bowers
As I grew up, I developed an appreciation for music. Although I’m not a musician, I enjoy attending live performances and festivals. From rock to jazz, and then being introduced to the blues, music has always been a great form of entertainment for me. Serving as the OBBS President for several years has given me the opportunity to share many unique experiences with our membership through blues music. Many friendships have blossomed from being a member of our blues society because we share a common interest, the blues. It’s been an honor being in a leadership role of “Keeping the Blues Strong” in Central Florida.
Since I’ve been the Executive Director of the OBBS, we’ve added additional projects for our members to enjoy. Quarterly we co-sponsor National Touring Blues Musicians at the Alley where our members receive a 10% discount on bar & Fuel tabs. Our partnership with the City of Casselberry has expanded to include three annual events ranging from blues, rock ‘n blues, and kid-friendly music events. Blues Unplugged at Second Harvest in Orlando is a member favorite every December where we assist them in their warehouse packing food items for those less fortunate in our community followed by “blues unplugged” and refreshments. The Central Florida Music Lovers’ Jam hosted by our Board Member Dr. Tom Watson held at Renningers is a great way to enjoy the peaceful surroundings, hear local blues musicians, and make new like-minded friends. Membership has its perks, show your card & the admission is waived.
The biggest reward we’ve achieved is being awarded a grant from Seminole Cultural Arts Council for our Blues in the School (BITS) initiative for 2023-2024. We will be providing a program to two underserved Middle Schools in Seminole County. It feels so good being recognized for our community support and good will.
Be proud of your membership to the OBBS and share with your family and friends. That’s how we will “Keep the Blues Strong” in Central Florida.

I was born in Wilmington, NC and moved to Florida in 1978. I got my Bachelors degree in Environmental Engineering from UF and a Masters in Public Administration from UCF. I spent 11 years as an Engineering Consultant specializing in Stormwater Management, then was City Engineer and Public Works Director for the City of Ormond Beach, ending my career as the Road and Bridge Director and Stormwater Manager for Volusia County.
In addition to being a passionate blues lover, I am an avid traveler, primarily in my RV. I am married, with two children, three stepchildren, and five grandchildren.
I live in DeLand and am a long term member of the Daytona Blues Society. I joined the Orange Blossom Blues Society three years ago and was elected to the Board of Directors two years ago. I am currently the Vice President and in charge of membership, grants and assisting the President in any way needed.
Director
Brian Glaze
I've been a Central Florida resident since 1980, OBBS member since 2015. When I'm not at a sports car race or 'gone' kayak fishing, I really enjoy live music, especially blues. Volunteering with OBBS has been extremely gratifying and fun at the same time. I enjoy brainstorming with the group for ideas to help make things run smoothly and attract more people to upcoming OBBS sponsored events. Shows at The Alley in Sanford featuring the most popular blues artists, and the free festivals at the beautiful outdoor venue at Casselberry's Lake Concord Park are my favorites.
I have been helping with the OBBS monthly newsletter and welcome any suggestions to share news and/or upcoming events.
As someone once said 'Life is short, buy the concert tickets.'

These minutes serve as acritical documentation for future reference and a source of transparency for our members.
Additionally, I have been involved in various administration tasks, such as coordinating logistics for society events, managing correspondence with members and other stakeholders, and assisting in the organization of fundraising activities. Through these responsibilities, I have developed strong organizational and communication skills, ensuring that all society activities run smoothly.
Apart from my secretarial duties, I have actively participated in strategic planning sessions, contributing to the development and implementation of the society goals and objectives. I have provided valuable insights and suggestions, leveraging my passion for blues music and my knowledge of the local community to support the society’s growth and success.
Being a part of the Orange Blossom Blues Society has not only enhanced my understanding and appreciation of blues music but has also deepened my commitment to promoting this unique art form. Through my role as Secretary, I have been able to contribute to the society’s continuous efforts to strengthen the blues community and provide support and opportunities to talented musicians.
I am grateful for the opportunity to serve on the Board of Directors as the Secretary for the Orange Blossom Blues Society and I look forward to continuing my involvement in the years to come.
